1970's Omega Seamaster Chronograph Ref. This gorgeous Omega Seamaster just oozes 1970s watch design and excellence. The matte blue dial and white outer tachymetre, black subdials with bright orange center minutes hand has a very sporty and classic appearance. The 38mm square-tonneau style case is handsome and timeless with excellent wrist presence, hard to believe that this design is nearly fifty years old! But, the true beauty of this piece is in the movement. 1040 that powers this Seamaster is a modified Lemania 1340 Movement and boasts a handful of helpful complications. Omega made this movement their own by bumping jewel count from 17 to 22 and by adding a 24-hour indicator inside the running seconds subdial (left, 9 o'clock subdial).
The hour recorder is located at the 6 o'clock position (bottom subdial) and the center minutes recorder is made recognizable by its bright orange airplane style hand. This movement features a date complication and the movement beats at 28,800 bph.For being a nearly fifty year old watch, this particular unit has obviously been care for and is in overall excellent shape but like anything that's been around that long, it does show some usage. Aside from some light scratches, the case looks great with no major nicks or dings. It has been lightly polished but still retains the high polish case sides and machined front with machined lines radiating from the center outward. The plexi dome "crystal" is also in great shape showing some light scratches (in the right light/angle) and only has one nick that is noteworthy that is located above the 1:00 position of the bottom subdial (in the picture above, it appears above the 12:00 position because of the angle the photo was taken from, see red arrow).
This is the only nick or scratch that can be felt when running your finger nail over it. The crystal still retains a nice glassy, liquid look with no crazing, yellowing or cracking. A detail about the crystal that I never noticed in person and only noticed because of the close up photos I was taking to capture the small nick is the incorporation of the Omega logo that is smack in the middle of the crystal! But a cool little detail that you would otherwise not notice also indicating that this is a genuine, and maybe the original crystal.
The movement still keeps great time and the chronograph complication still operates properly with all three hands (second, minute on the main dial and the hour hand on the bottom 6 o'clock subdial) returning to 12:00 when reset. The 24 hour marker on the left 9 o'clock subdail operates as well. The movement keeps great time but there are two things to note, both of which were present when I obtained this piece. First, while it still keeps the date accurately, it fails to line up perfectly centered in the window when switching to the next date, and ends up just a bit from centered each day. This does not distract or block from viewing the date clearly each day but it is a detail worth noting. When the crown is pulled out to the first detent to adjust the date and while turning the crown in that position to adjust, not only is the date being adjusted but the movement is being wound simultaneously. This does not affect operation just worthy of note. The date rolls fully into place one hour after midnight (except for that last little bit). I have not had the case back off so I do not have photos of the movement.
The steel bracelet is in excellent condition as well. As seen in the photos, the links are all in great shape as well as the clasp which still closes with a nice secure and assuring "snap". The clasp is currently set to the largest setting and fits just snug around my wrist which measures 7.25 between my hand and wrist bone. There are no extra links for the bracelet so measure your own wrist to verify this will fit you! The only items included in this sale are items that are seen in the pictures.
